This artist is just one of many across the past few centuries whose works have not really been understood within their own lifetime but has been academically accepted some years later with the general art public also following suit.

We can conclude that the works of Van Gogh are amongst the most important and popular to have come from any artist since the Middle Ages and it is unsurprising that so many of his paintings have become well known because of the high level of quality which he consistently achieved in his later years as a painter.
